2016-2017 Scuba Club
The Hamburg Community School District scuba diving program is offered as part of a physical education, marine biology, and lifetime sports program. The course follows the National Association of Underwater Instructor's (NAUI) scuba diver requirements with completion students will obtain a lifetime NAUI SCUBA DIVER certificate.
The course has three elements:
1) Classroom learning
2) Pool skills training
3) Open Water Certification
After completing the pool/classroom portions of the program students do an open water certification at Mermet Springs, Metropolis, IL.
Mermet Springs is a diving site specifically designed for student training. The dive site has shelters, bathrooms, and showers. Students participate in four scuba dives and one skin dive. Mermet Springs has a professionally trained staff on site at all times.
Students can explore and swim through a 727 Jet Airplane (from the movie U.S. Marshals), ride an underwater Harley Davidson, explore a rail car, cabin cruiser and swim through a school bus.
