5th graders started practicing the design process and engineering through a project titled "The Unsinkable Ship." The design process is a cycle and not linear. This means the beginning is also the start. The cycle continues until the project is deemed acceptable. Students identify a problem, brainstorm solutions, select a solution, do the solution, reflect upon the solution, and decide if they need to make improvements which bring them to the start of the process again. With the unsinkable ship project, students were given a slice of cardboard and tinfoil to design a ship. We used dice to try to sink the ship. Congratulations to Nathan Stenzel and Martin Rodriguez! Their ship held the most dice with 26!
